Original painting, by Kristian von Hornsleth, 2021, 60 x 180 cm, spray, acrylic, ink and car paint on Belgian canvas, stretched on exclusive hand-carved blind frames made of abachi wood.

The title 'FYAL' stands for 'Fuck You Art Lovers', and is a reverse psychological statement about being trapped in prejudice and a reference to the fact that we are all 'fucked' when we buy art.

We don't always have our own opinions about art.

We are all brainwashed by our media, parents, teachers and public opinion to have certain opinions about what is 'good' art!

Ultimately, the big question is: Does the pure and unprejudiced experience of art exist?

Are you a free person?

The abstract motifs in this painting are completely unique to Hornsleth's visual art.

As a purely meditative exercise, Hornsleth seeks to create a so-called 'abstract self-portrait'.

By letting his hand and brush perform seemingly random brushstrokes, a kind of improvised dialogue arises between the artist and the painted traces.

Hornsleth's idea is to 'describe' the signals that emerge when he decides to paint these abstract traces.

The art thus arises if Hornsleth is true to his signals and notices whether it feels right and genuine.

This makes it a picture of Hornsleth's personal feelings, and is therefore a kind of self-portrait!
