King Frederik gave encouragement to the Danish resistance movement against the German occupation during World War II and, along with his father, Christian X , he was imprisoned by the Germans from 1943 to 1945.
King Frederik was a highly popular monarch, and he maintained the ties of affection between the people and the royal house, and even to this day his daughter Queen Magrethe is a very popular Queen among the Danish people.
