Kristian von Hornsleth's work Tax Fucking the Poor asks the simple question: "Why shouldn't big companies pay taxes when the rest of us have to?"
The work is a humorous and provocative commentary on global economic inequality and the distribution of power.
Ikea has never paid tax in Denmark, because they can legally transfer their profits to their other companies abroad, which, funnily enough, always have losses!
According to a review, more than 6,500 companies have not paid Danish tax for at least six years - some of them for up to 25 years.
Behind the humorous and extreme title lies a serious criticism of the values of modern society – a call to hold those in power accountable and break the silence surrounding economic oppression .
With a raw visual aesthetic and brutal honesty, the work focuses on how tax systems and political structures often hit the most vulnerable hardest – while the elite go free.
Since the work's launch, it has created debate and fascination, precisely because it cuts to the core of one of the most controversial issues of our time: How power and money still rule the world – often at the expense of the weakest.
This art poster is a reproduction of Danish artist Kristian von Hornsleth's original painting Tax Fucking the Poor , which in English would read: "The tax department is screwing the poor".
The art work is designed to provoke thought, challenge norms, and spark conversation, hopefully in a humorous way!
