King Frederik gave encouragement to the Danish resistance movement against the German occupation during World War II and, along with his father, Christian X, he was imprisoned by the Germans from 1943 to 1945. King Frederik was a highly popular monarch, and he maintained the ties of affection between the people and the royal house, and even to day his daughter Queen Magrethe is a very popular Queen among the daniss people.
