BITCH No 1.
The art poster is a reproduction of Danish artist Kristian von Hornsleth’s famous art pice “BITCH NO 1”
A fashion wall art poster from the 60'ies, portraying a naked woman with small, peaky breasts, heavy makeup and an artsy haircut. In the middle of the picture you see the words ‘BITCH’ scratched into the surface of the painting. The word BITCH refer to the pro-sexuality feminist movement, in which women today’s reclaim and re-signify the meaning of words such as ‘bitch’, ‘slut’ and ‘whore’ as part of emancipating their sexuality.
Bitch was conceived while on a long haul flight, when Hornsleth found this image in a magazine (aftershave advert), and began doodling over it. His doodles became more aggressive, as he contemplated the banality of the advert. The pen eventually tore through the paper, revealing a blood like red from the page below. He instantly decided to keep the image, eventually scanning and enlarging it. He later decided it should be framed in a light box to create the appearance of a glamorous billboard.
