Janteloven (in English the Law of Jante) is a code of conduct in Nordic countries (with reference to Hornsleth’s Danish origin). It covers the informal law that applies to all Nordic peoples: if you do something out of the ordinary, are being overtly ambitious, or are bragging about your own success, you are considered inappropriate and are breaking the Law of Jante. In other words, if you are (too) successful don’t flaunt it in public. The Law of Jante was first formulated by the Dano-Norwegian author Aksel Sandemose in 1933, and the code of conduct has been an integrated and unsaid rule ever since.
Hornsleth breaks this rule by combining the dollar sign - i.e. a world-known metaphor for success - with the words F*CK Janteloven.
